estimation of genetic parameters for pre weaning growth traits and lamb survival in iran black sheep
Authors
abstract
the aims of this research were to estimate of genetic parameters for pre-weaning traits and lamb survival in iran-black sheep. for this purpose 6344 records for birth weight (bw) and lamb survival (ls) and 5264 records for weaning weight (ww), average daily gain (adg) and kleiber ratio (kr) were available, which collected by abbasabad animal breeding and rearing station, over the period from 1984 to 2010. for pre weaning traits only animal model, and for lamb survival animal, sire and threshold model were fitted. direct heritability for bw, ww, adg and kr were 0.05±0.01, 0.12±0.03, 0.11±0.03 and 0.10±0.03, respectively. genetic parameters were estimated by using of reml procedures. akaike’s information criterion (aic) test was used to choose of the most suitable model. heritability estimate for lamb survival with animal and sire model was 0.09±0.01 and 0.07±0.01, which after correction was increased to 0.22 and 0.17. also, the estimation of heritability from threshold model was 0.21±0.08. therefore, underlying heritability obtained from animal and sire models are not deviated from the heritability estimate from the threshold model. the genetic correlation between bw-ww, bw-adg, bw-kr, bw-sl, ww-adg, ww-kr and adg-kr were 0.98, 0.99, 0.64, 0.96, 0.99, 0.31 and 0.92 respectively.

Inbreeding effects on lamb pre-weaning growth traits and survival in three Iranian sheep breeds
The present study was performed to study the effect of inbreeding on the pre-weaning growth traits including the birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), average daily gain (ADG), Kleiber ratio (KR) and lamb survival from birth to weaning (SUR) in Baluchi, Iran-Black and Zandi sheep. Significant positive inbreeding trends were found only for Baluchi and Iran-Black breeds as 0.038 and 0.278, resp...
full textEstimation of (co) variance components and genetic parameters for growth traits in Arman sheep
(Co) variance components and genetic parameters for growth traits in Arman sheep were estimated, using data collected during an 11-year period (1999-2010), by applying the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) procedure under univariate and bivariate animal models. The studied traits were body weight of lamb at birth (BW), body weight at 3 months of age as weaning weight (WW), body weight at 6 m...

Genetic parameters for birth weight and survival traits were estimated using data collected from 1995 to 2009 in Jafarabad Moghani Sheep Breeding Station. Number of observation for survival and birth weight were 7202 and 6585, respectively. Genetic parameters were estimated using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) procedure under 16 different models, including animal, threshold and sire mod...
full textEstimation of Genetic Parameters for Growth and Body Measurement Traits in Different Ages in Iranian Makuei Sheep
The present study aimed to estimate heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations between body weight and body measurement traits in Iranian Makuei sheep. The used data were collected from 1989 to 2012 at Makuei Sheep Breeding Station in Maku (West Azarbayjan province). The data included body weight and five body measurement traits (body length (BL), heart girth (HG), withers height (WH), r...
